Finding Inspiration: Ambassador Dawn Doucette

What inspires my jewelry making? The short answer is everything. . .

Most of my designs fall into 2 categories – custom orders or tropical!  When I’m creating something custom for someone I have them email me photos and we talk about what they love, and what’s important to them.  I intuitively pick up on their energy and create a piece that perfectly showcases who they are and tells their story.

For pieces that haven’t been custom ordered, I am constantly inspired by tropical things! So much so that after last year’s Cousin Corporation Ambassador Retreat I fell in love with Florida. From salty air and palm trees, to gorgeous sunsets and warm turquoise waters.  I visited the area several more times throughout the year and relocated here just recently!

Just recently Cousin Corporation brought a group of 7 ambassadors down to their corporate office for 3 days of business building, discussing trends in jewelry making and crafting and networking!  As part of the fun event, we have a sunset cocktail party!  I wanted to create a design that mirrored a gorgeous Florida sunset.  So first I found the dress, it was rich in hues of orange, tangerine, magenta, crimson and golds. Then I set to work allowing the colors of sunset and my dress be my guide to the perfect necklace that showed who I was.

I used seedbeads to capture the perfect lampwork glass cabochon, added a big pop of sparkle with a Swarovski Crystal pendant and accented the necklace with Cousin Shamballa beads, faceted agate rounds and a great nut & bolt toggle!  Such a fun design and it truly was the perfect accent for a tropical Florida Sunset!
