What inspires my jewelry making? The short answer is everything. . .

Most of my designs fall into 2 categories – custom orders or tropical!  When I’m creating something custom for someone I have them email me photos and we talk about what they love, and what’s important to them.  I intuitively pick up on their energy and create a piece that perfectly showcases who they are and tells their story.

For pieces that haven’t been custom ordered, I am constantly inspired by tropical things! So much so that after last year’s Cousin Corporation Ambassador Retreat I fell in love ...

One of the biggest ways I get inspired is just by visually being able to see my beads.  I love to play around with different bead combinations and that is generally what starts a new jewelry project for me.  If i can't easily see or access my beads it is hard for me get inspired! Thus, I try to keep my beads out in the open as much as possible.  I blogged about it awhile back but I still LOVE my bead organization magnet board. Inspiration comes in several ways, but one of the biggest sources of inspiration for me is my girls. I love to make all kinds of things for them, whether it's jewelry, clothing, things for their rooms or just something fun they will like.

For example, last Christmas I decided to try my hand at Yarn Friendship Bracelets for my daughters and their friends. They turned out so fun, and they were able to personalize them with colors they knew their friends liked.

I was recently asked what inspires me.  It took me a bit to pinpoint the exact thing that has truly inspired me the most.  I create jewelry, but what inspires me to create it? Who or what gives me the idea that I can do this thing that I love so much to do?  Is it nature, literature, colors, other designers, architecture?

As I thought on this for a bit, I kept drawing a blank.  I thought about the styles of jewelry I make and where does that influence come from.  I couldn't put my finger on it.  I sat ...
